Easier Ways and Under-Earning, Step 2

Episode 2: Step Two — Letting Go, Learning, and Restoring Sanity

In Episode 2 of our Recovery Series, Randy Hayden and I explore Step Two through two complementary lenses.

From Under Earners Anonymous:
“Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.”

From Randy’s Easier Ways framework:
“We came to believe that, like all human beings, our power was limited, and we needed to let go of ideas that no longer serve us and learn from others.”

Step One asks us to admit attachment.
Step Two asks us to admit limitation.

For many of us, especially around earning and identity, the struggle isn’t just financial—it’s mental and emotional. We replay outdated beliefs about worth, success, productivity, and control. We try harder. We isolate. We double down on strategies that no longer work.

Step Two introduces something radically simple:

  • Maybe we don’t have to do this alone.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • What “a power greater than ourselves” can mean beyond religion
  • The difference between surrender and collapse
  • Why unlearning outdated beliefs is part of recovery
*How horizontal relationships and peer support restore perspective
  • Why asking for help is not weakness, but maturity

Randy reframes the idea of a higher power as collective wisdom, shared consciousness, and the lived experience of others who have walked a similar path. Recovery becomes less about divine intervention and more about connection, humility, and openness.

Sanity, in this context, isn’t perfection—it’s alignment. It’s the return to balance that happens when we stop trying to carry everything alone.

All hours spent engaging with this series are creditable through the Karmic Margin Call Project Time Bank.

Recovery deepens when we let go of ideas that no longer serve us—and allow ourselves to learn from one another.
